Approach

Local economic participation is advanced through recruitment, workforce development, domestic procurement and the Community Development and Empowerment Program (PPM).

PPM focuses on education, health, income and employment, enterprise development, institutions, infrastructure and environmental participation. Programs are shaped with communities and government and aim to strengthen self-reliance rather than long-term dependency on mining.

Prioritize transparent local recruitment and skills pathways.
Develop capable local and domestic suppliers while maintaining ESG screening.
Invest in livelihoods, MSMEs, agriculture, education and enabling infrastructure.
Monitor beneficiaries, outcomes and post-mining resilience, not only expenditure.

Optimize hydropower facilities and canals to reduce water loss and improve energy efficiency.
Convert boilers to electric and redesign ore stockpiles to reduce moisture and water usage.

Performance

PT Vale’s operations rely heavily on contractors, who perform a wide range of administrative, technical, and field activities that support operational continuity. In 2025, the contractor workforce reached 22,645 people, driven largely by expanded operational activities, including the furnace rebuild project. The workforce was overwhelmingly Indonesian (99.4%), reflecting PT Vale’s commitment to national workforce participation. Importantly, local contractors accounted for 17,846 people, or 78.8% of the total contractor workforce, demonstrating PT Vale’s significant contribution to local employment and economic development in its operational areas, particularly Sorowako.
