We seek to avoid physical and economic displacement where feasible and to manage unavoidable land acquisition and resettlement through fair, transparent and meaningful consultation

Approach

Prioritizes avoiding physical and economic displacement wherever possible. When land acquisition is unavoidable, operations follow IFC Performance Standard 5 (PS5) principles to ensure transparent, fair, and collaborative compensation modeling.

Social assessment, engagement, grievance handling and Sustainable Livelihood Restoration and Development Programs support affected people before and after relocation.

Avoid or minimize displacement through project design.
Identify affected people, rights, vulnerabilities and livelihood dependencies.
Use transparent valuation and compensation processes.
Restore livelihoods and monitor outcomes through consultation and grievance mechanisms.

Performance

In 2025, PTVI progressed the LARF and developed corrective actions for past land acquisition and compensation practices across Sorowako, Bahodopi and Pomalaa. The report describes ongoing consultation on the Tanamalia coexistence framework and identifies livelihood restoration planning for vulnerable plantation land acquisition in Pomalaa.

Dongi Resettlement

Dongi Resettlement is a resettlement initiative for the Indigenous To Karunsi’e Dongi community, whose historical ties to the Sorowako area were affected by changes in land use and development. The program is implemented through collaboration between the government and PT Vale to address historical land issues while supporting community well-being and sustainable development.
