Advancing Stunting Reduction Interventions in Kolaka, PT Vale Indonesia Supports the National Stunting Reduction Strategy and Health‑Related SDGs

Since 2024, PT Vale's initiatives have delivered tangible impact, reaching approximately 5,000 households identified as being at risk of stunting through the sustained provision of basic food supplies and supplementary nutrition packages. In recognition of this contribution, the Government of Kolaka Regency has expressed its strong appreciation for PT Vale’s proactive role in supporting the acceleration of stunting reduction in the region.

Kolaka, 20 April 2026 — As part of MIND ID and a strategic partner to the Government of Indonesia in advancing sustainable development, PT Vale Indonesia Tbk (“PT Vale” or the “Company”) continues to strengthen its contribution to improving community health outcomes.

Since 2024, the Company’s initiatives have delivered tangible impact, reaching approximately 5,000 households identified as being at risk of stunting through the sustained provision of basic food supplies and supplementary nutrition packages. These efforts have directly supported the improvement of household nutritional intake.

In recognition of this contribution, the Government of Kolaka Regency has expressed its strong appreciation for PT Vale’s proactive role in supporting the acceleration of stunting reduction in the region. This commitment is reflected in the implementation of a strengthened stunting reduction intervention programme in Kolaka Regency, Southeast Sulawesi.

The programme launch, held at the Regional Development Planning Agency (Bappeda) Hall of Kolaka Regency, was acknowledged by the local government as a concrete example of effective collaboration between the private sector and local authorities to address stunting in an integrated and sustainable manner.

The initiative is implemented in collaboration with the Population Control and Family Planning Agency (PP&KB) of Kolaka Regency, along with other relevant stakeholders. It forms part of the Company’s Social and Environmental Responsibility commitment to supporting the development of healthy and competitive human capital.

Stunting as a Strategic Development Priority
For PT Vale, preventing and addressing stunting goes beyond a social programme—it represents a long‑term investment in human development, shaping the quality of future generations and regional competitiveness.

Hasmir, Manager of External Relations at PT Vale Indonesia Tbk, Pomalaa Block, stated:

“Sustainability is not only about responsible operations, but also about making tangible contributions to improving people’s quality of life. Stunting prevention programmes represent a long‑term investment in building a healthy, resilient, and competitive generation.”

In line with Indonesia’s National Strategy for the Acceleration of Stunting Prevention (Stranas Stunting), the programme integrates two complementary approaches: nutrition‑specific interventions and nutrition‑sensitive interventions.

Nutrition‑specific interventions focus on the most vulnerable groups—pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, and young children—through measures that directly influence nutritional status and health outcomes. Nutrition‑sensitive interventions, meanwhile, are aimed at strengthening enabling systems and environments, ensuring a supportive ecosystem for optimal child growth and development.

Integrated, Long‑Term Impact
In practice, PT Vale supports a range of integrated activities, including:

  • the provision of supplementary food to improve nutritional intake,
  • basic nutrition education for families to strengthen awareness and daily practices, and
  • enhanced child growth monitoring to ensure targeted and sustained interventions.

This comprehensive approach ensures that stunting reduction efforts extend beyond short‑term assistance and contribute to the long‑term foundations of public health and human development.

At the global level, these efforts directly contribute to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 2: Zero Hunger, which aims to eliminate all forms of malnutrition, including stunting among children.

Synergy with Local Government
Programme planning and implementation are fully aligned with the policies and priorities of the Kolaka Regency Government and are carried out in close coordination with PP&KB as the designated technical agency. This alignment ensures that interventions are needs‑based, locally relevant, well‑targeted, and sustainable.

The Kolaka Regency Government views PT Vale’s involvement as a strong example of effective public–private collaboration in advancing both national and regional development agendas, particularly in improving public health outcomes.

From Kolaka, for Future Generations
Through this initiative, PT Vale reaffirms its commitment as a strategic partner to local government in promoting sustainable human development and improving quality of life for communities.

The strengthened stunting reduction interventions in Kolaka Regency form part of the Company’s ongoing efforts to deliver measurable and meaningful social impact.

By working collaboratively with government, communities, and other stakeholders, PT Vale believes that inclusive and sustainable development can only be achieved through strong partnerships.

These efforts not only support the health and wellbeing of today’s children, but also help lay a solid foundation for a healthier, more resilient, and higher‑quality future generation.
